Sunwater – Burdekin Falls Dam Raising Project

The Brief

Sunwater engaged Pure Gold Films to produce a video explaining the proposed Burdekin Falls Dam Raising and Improvement Project. The purpose of the video was to clearly communicate the scope, rationale, and potential impacts of the project to the local community and key stakeholders.

As a statutory government body, Sunwater required the content to be factual and highly accurate, while still being accessible to a non-technical audience.

Our Approach

We worked closely with Sunwater from the outset, providing our services on voiceover scripting, storyboarding, and the overall narrative structure before filming began. This upfront planning was critical given the technical nature of the project and the need for precision in how information was presented.

On site, we captured aerial footage of the existing Burdekin Falls Dam, including the current dam wall, saddle dams, and spillway structures. These real-world visuals were combined with detailed 3D animation and motion graphics to help explain both the existing environment and the proposed works.

The 3D visuals were developed using real survey data and CAD models, allowing us to create an accurate representation of the dam area and clearly visualise the changes that would be undertaken as part of the project. This capability enabled complex engineering concepts to be communicated clearly and confidently.

Throughout production, we worked closely with Sunwater and relevant stakeholders to ensure all information presented was accurate and appropriate for public communication.

The Outcome

The final result was a 2.5 minute video that clearly explains the Burdekin Falls Dam Raising and Improvement Project in a way that is both technically accurate and easy to understand. Sunwater is using the video to support community engagement and stakeholder consultation, providing a clear visual reference for a significant piece of regional infrastructure planning.
